In this older Orientation musing and practice I shared the potent possibilities of orientation cultivation, the clues woven within the etymology of the word orient, and what it means to discover where we are in a dynamic and evolving web of moving bodies.
As we move towards Equinox, spring for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, I invite us to revisit the inquiry of how we locate ourselves. To the physical location of the rising sun, and to the guiding lights of intentions and aspirations. How do we know, and find again, where we actually are? How can this awareness help us plot courses and move in directions that are true and meaningful for us?
Consistently training in orientation, returning to curiosity about our location and direction of movement, feels especially relevant in an era afflicted with so many conflicting narratives. When it can be hard to know what is true, as those with control over large-scale information dissemination have specific agendas that might not be in service to life and liberation, and even the idea of there being an “absolute” truth is under question, we get to lean into our skills of curiosity and observation while deepening more fully into the wisdom of breath.
